Curveballs for Jobu

Curveballs for Jobu is Offbasepercentage's daily trip around the ballparks.

Today's honorary bat boy is Shawn Abner.

Yankees 7, Rangers 6. Down 6-1 to Cliff Lee usually means a loss for the Yankees and some sort of patio furniture being re-arranged (broken) and an old DVD (VHS) being destroyed in my apartment. But not Wednesday. The Yanks chipped away with a run in the 6th and two in the 7th. Then Marcus Thames happened. Thames, hitting in the No. 3 hole while Mark Teixeira watched his wife give birth while, I'm assuming from my experience seeing women give birth in movies, shouted profanity at Teixeira, hit a solo home run in the eighth that landed 10 minutes ago and the go-ahead single in the 9th. Unfortunately, Yankees radio play-by-play man John Sterling shouted "happy Thames are here again", which is the 7th-stupidest thing I've ever heard. Meanwhile, Mariano Rivera allowed a lead off triple to Elvis Andrus in the bottom of the ninth, then got three weak outs from the middle of the Texas order, two on nice plays by Austin Kearns in left and Alex at third, to push the Yankees lead in the East to 1 1/2 games.

Oh, I'm sorry, were other games played Wednesday?

Rockies 6, Mets 2. MTD will handle the K-Rod/Father-in-Law fiasco later on today, but here at Jobu headquarters we get to handle the Mets on-field catastrophes! In a 2-2 game in the 8th, Manny Acosta served up a grand slam to Melvin Mora, who I thought retired 10 years ago. The Mutters offense produced a two-run home run in the first by Angel Pagan, then two singles the rest of the way, one by future Blanco Family Hall of Famer, Henry Blanco.

Angels 2, Royals 1 (10). Bobby Abreu hit a walk-off home run in the tenth and didn't hurt himself stepping on home plate. We're almost done burying that joke.
