Just because it is December January, doesn't mean that there isn't baseball happening. And not just any baseball, but rough and tumble, rock-em sock-em robots baseball.
It is summer time in Australia, and that means that those lucky bastards get to watch live baseball. And not just any live baseball, but live baseball that hasn't been messed with by silly rules like "No more plowing the catcher at home plate."
In the top of the fourth inning of a game played last year on December 28th, Brisbane was ahead of Sydney 5-2 when a ground ball through the left side of the infield led to this:
Well hot damn, someone sign that guy up for rugby.
The melee goes into over drive at around the 0:15 mark when a player comes rushing out of Brisbane's dugout and plows the catcher, who is probably still reeling after getting launched into the second row after the play at the plate.
Chin check.
This of course was followed by pushing, hugging and headlocks.
Overall grade: 6
I expect a little more out of our friends from down under. A little more actual fighting. But, to be fair, the play at the plate and the ensuing take out blow from the catcher's blindside carried the score a little higher.
At the very least, there is still actual baseball being played in a real place that actually exists on this earth. Its enough to keep me from pulling my hair out, and enough to keep me occupied until pitchers and catchers report next month.
